David Gibbons - Managing Director
David Gibbons joined Roche in July 2015 as Finance Manager for Diabetes Care, Management Centre South Africa (MCSA). In January 2017 he was appointed Finance Manager Pharma, MC South Africa providing strategic financial and commercial direction to the organisation. In January 2018 he was appointed to the role of General Manager South Africa. Before joining Roche, David worked as a Finance Manager for Cummins South Africa (Pty) Ltd for four years. David holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science and Information Systems from the University of Port Elizabeth South Africa, as well as an Honours’ degree in Accounting from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa. He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. In his free time, David enjoys spending time outdoors including fishing, flying model air planes and spending time with family.
Dennis Sasse - Financial Director
Dennis joined Roche Germany in 2015 as a Business Controller for the Avastin and Specialty Care franchises before heading the strategic planning process and integrating life cycle management for Roche Germany, ensuring portfolio planning and prioritization tools are integrated in the planning cycle. Prior to joining Roche, Dennis spent three years with Merck KGaA as a Senior Finance Manager within Corporate Finance. He started his career with Nestlé S.A., where he spent four years, mainly in Group Audit, managing international teams to review the company operations around the world. Dennis holds a Masters in Business Administration. In his current role, Dennis is accountable for all Finance functions of Roche Management Centre South Africa (MCSA), as well as Procurement and Supply Chain. Dennis will also be part of the South African Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the long-term strategic planning of Roche South Africa and an additional 13 countries within the Southern African and Indian Ocean sub-region.
Berenice Kerr-Phillips - Head of Human Resources & Business Services
Berenice joined Roche in October 2018 as the Head of HR for Management Centre South Africa. Prior to joining Roche, Berenice worked at Cisco Systems where she held the position of HR Lead for Africa, with the overall responsibility for the HR Strategy across Africa. She also worked for Danone South Africa, as the HR Director. Berenice holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management (Leadership and Change) from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
Kgothatso Motumi - Head of Market Access and Public Policy
Kgothatso joined Roche in 2014 as the Medical Manager for Haematology and was promoted to Medical Lead in 2016. Prior to joining Roche, Kgothatso held roles at Novartis as the Medical Manager for Transplant, Ophthalmology and Dermatology. She was also a Medical Advisor at Discovery in the Medical Review Team. On 1st December 2019, Kgothatso was appointed as Head of Market Access and Public Policy to date. Kgothatso is a medical doctor by profession, qualifying with an MBCHB from UCT.
Michael Maistry - Head of Legal and Compliance
Michael joined Roche in February 2019 as the Head of Legal and Compliance. Prior to joining Roche, Michael was at Pfizer for four years where he held the position of Associate Legal Director and was responsible for legal strategy and direction for Sub-Saharan Africa. Before that he was in practice at DLA Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. Michael is an admitted attorney and notary and holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa
Nick Mangeya - Head of Medical Affairs
Nicholas joined Roche in 2016 as a Medical Manager for Breast and Gynaecology Oncology following which he became the Medical Lead in 2018. He did an assignment in Roche East Africa for an ad-interim medical director role in 2019. Prior to joining Roche Nicholas held the role of Medical Manager for South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa at Boehringer Ingelheim in Cardiovascular Medicine. Nicholas also spent earlier years in HIV vaccine clinical trial research and systematic review writing. Nicholas is a medical doctor by profession from University of Zimbabwe with a background of clinical epidemiology and pharmaceutical medicine.
