At Roche, our primary objective is to provide healthcare solutions that deliver superior options for diagnosis and treatment to medical practitioners and patients. As one of the world's leading healthcare companies with combined strengths in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, no company is better suited for this task.
Roche's personalised healthcare approach uses new molecular insights and molecular diagnostic tests to better tailor medicines and better manage diseases.
Roche Diagnostics has a proud tradition of innovation in healthcare around the globe. We are committed to making a real difference in people’s lives by providing products and services for the diagnosis of diseases. One of our objectives is to develop new diagnostic tools to support healthcare professionals and patients, in their efforts to manage diseases and healthcare costs.
Our leadership in innovation is evident in our Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV program built on our globally renowned Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology. The introduction of a Dried Blood Spot (DBS) sampling option for this program has had a direct benefit for all stakeholders in the healthcare industry namely, patients, clinicians, administrators and program funders.
Roche Diagnostics’ adoption of innovation within these programs is not limited to the development of in-vitro diagnostic assays for high burden diseases such as HIV/AIDS and TB, but also encompasses other aspects of process workflow in an effort to create sustainable solutions for the challenges posed within resource-limited regions. This is achieved through the AmpliCare Initiative, which was our proactive response to the need to expand diagnostics to these settings. More...
Beyond its traditional and distinctive role in the provision of innovative healthcare solutions to unmet medical needs, Roche has a long, rich heritage in wider community involvement. From the very beginning Roche recognised that its core business is about people, its employees, patients and most importantly, the community in which it operates. That tradition and recognition continues to this very day.
In South Africa, Roche has been a leading partner in the Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train initiative, which serves over 45 000 people each year. For an interactive presentation on the Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare initiative click here.
Another local Roche initiative, demonstrating the Company's commitment to cancer care in South Africa, is the recent modernisation and refurbishment of the adult oncology unit at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg.
Roche’s community involvement also spreads across sub-Saharan Africa. The company is particularly proud of its association with UNICEF and the European Coalition of Positive People (ECPP) in Malawi in aid of children orphaned as a result of AIDS. Every year, Roche staff all over the world walk to raise funds for the chidren.
